In February 2023 she won Best Original Score at White Deer Film Festival for silent short film Ghosted, and in summer 2023 won the award for best score in a narrative film and VSBIFF.

She’s scored two games, both available via Steam.

Jo’s work in theatre has included plays with tours around the UK, and runs at both the Brighton and Edinburgh Fringes. Jo has worked in both pre-recorded and live theatre scores.

Jo’s singer-songwriter work has included releasing several Christmas charity singles and multiple EPs. She’s gigged around the midlands, and her music has been played on BBC WM.

Jo has a masters degree in composition from the University of Birmingham, having specialised in combining acoustic and electronic sound worlds. During her undergraduate she specialised in romantic violin performance practice and acoustic composition. She has studied with Jonty Harrison and Michael Zev Gordon.

Jo also works as an orchestrator and score engraver. She regularly works with clients around the world, and provides everything from ghost-written piano teaching resources to full scores for orchestral recording sessions.

From June 2019 to June 2022 Jo was part of BAFTA Crew X BFI Network before becoming a full member of BAFTA in 2023. She’s a member of PRS and WFTV.

When not writing music, Jo is normally to be found halfway up a mountain or drinking tea.

Jo is a sonic story teller, multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter who is passionate about film and music. She trained in classical music before studying the avant garde styles of musique concrete and electroacoustic.

Jo is equally at home in an orchestra as she is sampling tree stumps, and always builds a carefully constructed sound world for every film she works on. She believes that working with real instruments is an integral part of composition and regularly self-performs on her work.

Jo believes that a composer is an assistant director, helping the director tell their story through sound. She collaborates closely with directors and has a huge passion for helping tell previously untold stories. She’s a full member of BAFTA and judged the TV BAFTA awards in 2023.

Jo has worked in features, shorts, plays, and podcasts in many genres. Many features that she has scored are available via Amazon Prime. Her music has been used across the BBC TV network and played on BBC radio, and her work has been mixed in major UK studios such as Warner Brother’s De Lane Lea and Twickenham Film Studios.

She works with major UK music library companies such as West One and BAM. She is affiliated with COOL Music and Composerworks.
